1st XI: Crash Bang Wallop 2

This weeks CBW story takes us to Menston CC on the back of back to back wins, (good use of back), where skipper Tom wins the toss and chooses to bat first, Will goes followed by Nathan, 8 for 2, then Ricky P strides to the crease to join newly installed opener JH. On my signal unleash hell, shades of Woodhouse 2013, Maximus Johnson causes carnage, 100 in 62 balls, Ricky sailing serenely along, drinks taken at 25 overs 175 for 2, jeez could be 400 !, partnership reaches 182 when Ricky falls for 59 great knock Kiwi, Laurie arrives JH still going strong, these two put on 76 of which Laurie was at great pains to say last night he contributed 2 !!, finally JH goes for a magnificent 185 top innings. 256 for 4 still 17 overs left, unfortunately we were unable to continue the momentum, stumbling to 303 all out, criminally giving Menston 7 overs. First half of the job completed full batting points again.

Second half begins, a shell shocked Menston begin the chase, Nathan strikes first, then Steve K twice more, 38 for 3, momentum going to ACC, then Kyle Smith decides to take the fight to us, he smashed the ball to all parts of Menston before finally Rich got him caught by the Kiwi for 102, a steady fall of wickets had continued at the other end, 3 falling on 102, eventually Menston capitulated on 170, 15 less than JH got wow.Nathan finished with 3 for 32, Steve had 3 for 48, and Henry finished with 2 for 40, well bowled boys, top effort full bowling points as well, full 20 points, let’s keep this going.

Further news filtered through, New Rover had lost at Calverley, Addingham top of Div. 3, let’s keep it like that now for the remaining 8 matches, let everybody else worry about us now.

2nd XI mixing youth and experience..

Further to 1st XI match report, I feel compelled to provide a brief report following an superb, exceptionally youthful 2nd XI performance away against promotion chasing Bolton Villas. Addingham fielded a team consisting of 1 under 60, 2 under 50’s, 1 under 30 and 7 teenagers!!!
Having elected to bat first, we reached a very respectable 144 all out in 37 overs on a very lively track against a very sharp bowling attack. Jonah D’Arcy top scoring with 33 ably supported by everyone (nearly), including Eliot Hutton who produced an ever lavish 21.

Having given Bolton Villas an extra 8 overs, giving them 53 over to reach 145 for the win, excellent opening spells from Al Merritt and Chris Robinson reduced the home team to 24 for 3. Unfortunately, we were unable to take advantage of a couple of half chances which allowed Bolton Villas No.3 to steady their ship…..finishing with an unbeaten 68, but not before we took a further 3 wickets shared between Kuhl Snr, Mace and one during an exceptional spell by Henry Croft…sealed with a skying catch by the ever passionate Matthew Toner. Bolton Villas needed all their over and more (using up 3 of our overs!!)

The never say die attitude, superb fielding and bowling performances of all, in particular the youngsters (and another 2 catches for Brian Kuhl!!!) forced the game to the death.

League fielding points were given by the Umpire to Josh Brooks who was outstanding who I am sure has sore hands today!….(and oldie Mace).

We have been so close in so many games this season, the continued positive attitude and passion of the juniors, in particular all those who played yesterday is not only a credit to the club, but themselves!!! Fantastically well done boys!!!

This bodes so very well for the future of the club, further evidenced by the continued growth of the likes of Danny Ellis.

Lets keep it going boys…..superb effort which absolutely deserved more reward!!!

I should like to also mention that every week, I am told by the umpires of the fantastic reputation Addingham 2nd XI has achieved this season in terms of involvement of youth, time taken to coach during play, the quality of the fielding and attitude and the overall superb manner in which Addingham approach all their games and their sportsmanship…..we appear to becoming quite legendary….again, a credit to the boys (and men) as a team and a whole!!!!!

A special thanks for Josh Hastings for scoring….a scorer in the making! and the parents of Matty Hasting, Josh Brooks and Chris Robinson who gave up their time to assist in ferrying when we were short of transport….obviously, with so many U15’s….drivers are limited!!!

Let’s keep up the good work and THANKS!!

Crash bang wallop – Ist XI take the points against Bolton Villas

Saturday saw the arrival of Bolton Villas to fortress Dingham, this looked on paper a tough game 2nd v 3rd in the Division, 2 high scoring teams chasing top spot.
ACC batted first, Ricky went quickly, Will 2nd out in bizarre circumstances, nicked off to keeper ( by his own admission !) umpire not out, then went for a wander and keeper takes off the bails, not out cry the ACC players, dead ball, incorrect ball is still live so keep on walking young Will. Nathan arrived and departed 1st ball hat trick on the cards, young BVCC Saffa bowling well 23 for 3 uh oh. In strides Laurie to partner JH, survives hat trick, then all hell breaks loose in the shape of JH smashing the ball to all parts of the ground, even the BVCC contingent are amazed at the power shown, 50 in 20odd balls, 71 for 3 in 9overs, jeez could get 400 at this rate. Laurie chipping in at his end as well, JH got to 64 then out c & b, what happens now, in strides young Danny Ellis at 6, he joins in the mayhem and forms a great partnership with both Laurie and when Laurie is out for 40 odd, skipper Tom, another 50 for Danny playing some superb shots, Tom soon gets into his stride as well, Danny finally went lbw for 94, top knock from the 18 year old. Tom cruised to his second 50 of the season before he was out, some late order hitting meant we reached the lofty total of 307 for 9.

First half of job done, post a total, now let’s set about the BVCC batting, an early wicket from Nathan, in roads straight away, then a hard hitting 2nd wicket partnership put on a 100 before that kiwi devil Rickster struck with 2 in 2 another hat trick on the cards, good delivery but no wicket, then Rob Struck and Ricky twice again, even Danny got in on the act, 2 for Jack at the end and a run out in amongst. BVCC all out 226, great effort from Ricky picking up 4 for, but all in all a great team effort, BVCC must be wondering where it all went wrong, 23 for 3, nightmares will be had in parts of Bradford last night 😜

20 points in the bag to jump up to second, 7 points behind New Rover, well done keep it up boys, forget what everyone else is doing, just keep playing like yesterday and let the other teams worry about US.

Henry and Chris selected for U15 Lord’s Tavernors squad

Many congratulations to Henry Croft and Chris Robinson, both of whom have been selected for the 2015 U15 Airedale and Wharfedale league Lord’s Tavernors squad. The selection is very well deserved after an excellent junior season.

We have an opportunity to support the team as the they play at Addingham CC on Tuesday 4th August against the North Yorkshire league. The match starts at 1pm.

The road to Lord’s – ACC fixture previewed in national cricket magazine

It has always been something of a mystery that Addingham Cricket Club has not featured more heavily in national publications, but ‘The Cricketer’ has at last started to take notice. ACC’s first round tie in the National Village Cup at Woodhouse Grange is featured as one of the matches to see in 2015- sandwiched between Warwickshire v Worcestershire at Edgbaston and the 1st test match of the summer vs New Zealand at Lord’s. See page 52 of the April edition.
